FINNS FEAR COMPETITION.
BALTIC-WHITE SEA LINK.

Helsingfors, August 9. The imminent completion by the Soviet of 140 miles of canal between the Baltic and White Seas is a cause of apprehension in Finland. The canal traverses Russian Karelia and the Gulf of Finland, connecting Leningrad with the whole of the Russian railway system. The Finns fear that the new outlet to the Baltic will greatly increase the competitive power of Soviet timbers a,nd give a strong impetus to the production of minerals in the Kola peninsula,
