ORDERS FOR NEW WARSHIPS
PROGRAMMES FOR TWO YEARS.
BRITAIN TO SPEND £20,000,000.

Contracts which normally would be spread over two years will be placed between now and March for new ships under ' the British naval programme, says the Daily Telegraph’s, naval expert in amplifying a statement he made I{Bt month' that order® for 22 new ships be placed at any other moment. These, contracts concern the programmes for 1931 and 1932, the former having ‘been held back 18 months. On a conservative estimate the total expenditure will be £20,000,000, all but . a negligible fraction going to British labour and materials. The programmes include four 7000-ton Leander cruisers, two 5500-ton Arethusa cruisers, two flotilla leaders, Id destroyers, eight sloops, six submarines, two gunboats and three depot or auxiliary ship?.
