PRICES OF GOLD AND SILVER. British Wireless. Rugby, Aug. 9. Gold is quoted at £5 18s 7d an ounce, compared with £5 19s yesterday and £5 19s 3d before the week-end. The latest quotations for silver are 17 13-16 d an ounce spot and 17 7-8 d forward, compared with 17Ad and 17 9-I6U yesterday. SHAREMARKET TRANSACTIONS. As a result of the heavy entry there was a slight decrease in the values realised for fat cattle at the weekly Frankton stock sales to-day. Late rates were maintained for good quality cow beef. The full yarding of ewes' and wethers was more than sufficient for buyers’ requirements, and a decline in quotations, except for prime wethers, was experienced. There was again a small yarning of fat pigs and a heavy offering of stores, the prices realised showing little variation on late rates. Sheep: Extra prime wethers made up to 13s Cd; fat wethers, 10s 6d to Us 6d; fat young ewes, to 10s 9d; aged fat ewes, 8s; inferior ewes, 6s to 7s; fat lambs, 8s to Us; store two-tooth wethers, 7s lOd; ewes in lamb, ss, to 7s; cull ewes, Is sd. Cattle: Light fat steers, £4 to £4 12s 6d; inferior Jersey-cross steers, £3 Is to £4; fat cows, £2 5s to £3 17s; light Jersey cows and heifers, 28s to £2 ss; Jersey-cross three-year steers, 80s; two-year-old empty Jersey-cross heifers, 85s; Jersey yearling heifers, small, 21s; good, £2 12s; boners, 8s to 18s.
