SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Waitara jr school committee was held on Monday a night, Mr. W. B. Glasgow presiding. Mr. - Glasgow received the congratulations of e the committee and the headmaster on i his election to the Taranaki Education f Board. The headmaster reported that Miss - Wells finished duty on July 30 as a res lieving assistant and her place was taken , by Miss Griffin as Grade 2 permanent - teacher. The attendance at the beginI ning of the month improved but had s dropped again owing to prevalent colds, i The average for the month was 355 and 1 the roll number 391. Shrubs and plants had been planted. The agricultural inspector had visited - the school and the advice and help were t appreciated. Seventy-two crib players on Tuesday attended the third of a series of parties 1 being conducted by the Waitara cycle j and athletic club. The winners were ’ Messrs. H. G. Hicks and ,D. H. Purdie (first prizes), Messrs. J. Roberts and C. Tanne (second prizes). The annual meeting of the Waitara Ladies’ Croquet Club was held on Monday. Mrs. I. Chittenden presided. A balance of £2 on the year’s working was considered satisfactory. Mrs. Muschamp was re-elected secretary. The election of a president was deferred. It was reported that the courts were receiving attention at the hands of the caretaker in readiness for the coming season.
