OVERLAPPING BODIES
NEED FOR REDUCTION. MOVEMENT IN WELLINGTON. A movement, is on foot in Wellington to call a meeting shortly.to form a Dominion organisation on lines similar to the Institute of Public Administration in London. Discussing the proposal generally last week a citizen interested in the movement said: “Something in the nature of uniformity and concerted action is called for to introduce more efficiency and reduction in overhead in both national and local government. . . . The Government is now being requested to appoint a commission with a view to reducing the overlapping of an abnormal number of local bodies that have steadily increased from the time tracts of country were subdivided into smaller areas. . “Allowing for world-wide transition in all phases of development, including roads and transport, and taking into consideration the pecuiar topographical nature of this Dominion, it is obvious that a wide field is open to bring about a material reduction in ths cost of administration without Impairing efficiency.”
