CROPPING RUGBY PARK.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Re relief of unemployment and seed for Rugby Park, I see the relief committee is getting in touch with Mr. J. McLeod re planting Rugby Park with potatoes. If they cannot make a, better success than they did last year ,1 would advise them sincerely to leave it alone. Anyway, I strongly object to any more public money being thrown away trying to grow potatoes in solid clay, where: even sorrel or any kind of weed will not grow. There was great blow and brag about the crop which they grew last year. It was in the Press 100 sacks were taken off when the crop was half dug. They forgot to tell the public those ,sacks were sugar bags a quarter full. I have grown a lot of potatoes in my time, but the crop they grew here'last season should have, got the red ticket—pig'and fowl feed in all its glory. Seeing there has been so much public money spent on this private park, I think it is up to the Rugby Union to print a balance-sheet and let the ratepayers see the amount of public money that has been spent to date. Before it is too late, I will ask some experienced farmers and professional gardeners and tillers of the soil to take a walk over the park and see for themselves. If they say there can be a decent crop taken off, well, I will own up that I am no farmer. Before I close, I will advise the public to take a stroll over the park and see where their money is going to be invested, or wasted.—l am, etc., TILLER OF THE SOIL.
