OKATO METHODIST BAZAAR

VERY SUCCESSFUL EFFORT. Under the auspices of the Methodist Ladies’ Guild a bazaar • was -held in Hempton Hall, Okato, on Thursday, the function being opened by the Rev. C. M. Roberts, Opunake. Success attended tho venture, the ladies securing a fair reward for their labour’s. The stallholders were: Sewing, Mesdames 8. Hall, C. Maxwell and W. Wilson; cakes, Mesdames W. Clarke and 8. Roebuck; produce, Mesdames Sears, J. Taylor and Miss Stanaway; sweets, Misses Mary Cole and Jean Henderson; parcels, Misses A. Ta-pp, Eha Jenkins and Marjory Churchill; bean-dip, Mrs. F. Roebuck and helpers; tearooms, Mesdames T. Tappin, F. Jenkins, W. Brown and helpers. The results of competitions were: — Button-holes: Girls (I'o to 15), FredaMcCabe 1, Nellie McFetridge 2; boys (10 to 15), Ken Shaw 1, Ray Jenkins 2; girls (9 and under), Marion Roebuck, I, Christine Jenkins 2; boys (9 and under), Mervyn Putt 1. Miss Jessie Tappin acted as steward, Mrs. Williams, Rahotu, being judge. Cooking: Fancy sponge, Mrs. Hall I, Mrs. Tappin 2, Mrs. Hall 3; plain sponge, Mrs. C. Putt 1, Mrs. Hall 2, Mrs. Tappin 3; scones, Mrs. Hall 1, Mrs. Tappin 2, Miss Stanaway 3; pikelets, Miss Hughson 1, Mrs. Hall 2; bread, Mrs. Tappin 1. The points prize was won by Mrs. Hall. Mrs. Morrow (Opunake) was judge, Mrs. Wilson and Miss J. Tappin acting as stewards. Home-made slippers: Section 1, Miss Stanaway 1; section 2, Miss Tapp 1. The judges were Mrs. K. F. Andrews and Miss M. W. Hughson. Home-made doll; Miss Emily Bannin 1. Mrs. C. M. Roberts wa<. the judge. In the evening a short programme was arranged by Miss Peterson, including songs by Miss Stanaway, duets by Mrs. Larking and Miss Peterson, songs by Mr, Somerford and recitations by Peggy and Dora Beale. Competitions in the evening resulted: Nail-driving, Mr. 8. Hall; quoits, the Rev. W. Wilson; pillow-fight, Mr. J. Tavlor; ehooting, Mr. B. Cooke; lazystick, Mr. E. Corbett: ladies’ nail-driv-ing, Mrs. J. Shaw; quoits, Miss Elva Jenkins.
