NECESSITY FOR CLEAN MILK. DISCUSSION AT NORMANBY. Suppliers were congratulated on the high standard of their milk at the annual meeting of the Normanby Co-oper-ative Dairy Factory Company, Ltd. yesterday by the chairman (Mr. A. Thrush) when he moved the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, but in doing so he drew attention to the danger of rusty oans. The necessity for clean cans was also impressed on the meeting by the manager (Mr. A. J. Hopcroft). Rusty cans, he said, were penetrated by the whey, which lodged in the rust and affected the condition of the milk. For the sake of clean milk the suppliers were asked to remedy this. In order to meet its shareholders the company had procured a consignment of new cans, which were available on easy payments. Mr. D. J. Hughes suggested that the directors should ascertain the cost of re-tinning milk cans on a pooling system.

On the motion of Mr. F. Riddle it was then decided to recommend to the directors that no milk be accepted from rusty cans.
