William Francis Crooke was charged before Mr. H. W. Bundle, S.M., at tlie Police Court to-day with the theft of £1720 13s. 4d., the property of the Grand Lodge of the Independent Order nf Oddfellows. The defalcations, which Crooke, admitted, extended from February, 1930, to April, 1932. James Gibson Patterson, accountant and auditor, said Crooke had forged receipts and altered genuine documents to enable him to steal money to fit in with his schemes. Restitution had been made, but not wholly.

Crooke pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed on his own surety of #5OO and on two sureties of £5OO each.
