LINCOLN SCHOOL PRESENTATION.

MR. GILLIVER’S DEPARTURE. Parents and pupils assembled in the Lincoln school on Thursday afternoon to bid farewell and make a presentation to the teacher, Mr. A. E. Gilliver, who has been promoted to a position in the Hawera school. When afternoon tea had been served by the ladies, Mr. Burson, chairman of the committee, expressed the regret of all at the departure of Mr. Gilliver, but hoped that his work at Hawera would be as successful as it had been at Lincoln. He referred to the successes of the school at various shows, particularly with regard to forestry and the shield the school had recently won in the potato-growing trials. He presented Mr. Gilliver with a travelling rug from the parents and pupils, and a fine collection of native woods by some of the boys. Mr. Gilliver thanked everyone for the presents and good wishes and expressed the hope that the school would continue to be as successful as it had been.. His experience at Lincoln had been nappy and profitable. •SPORTS AND GENERAL ITEMS. A dance held in the Parish Hall on Friday under the auspices of the young people of the Anglican Church was a complete success. Music was played by Mrs. Trass and the master of ceremonies was Mr. D. Gow. The rainfall at Inglewood in June was 9.11 in., there being 18 wet days. In June last year 8.76 in were recorded on 17 wet days. In the primary schools basketball matches on Saturday Inglewood A beat West End A by 17 to 13, and Inglewood B beat West End B 11 to 10. Both matches were played at New Plymouth. ■ An Inglewood Public 'Servants’ Rugby football team played Norfolk Road during the week-end. An exciting game was won by the Public Servants by nine points to six. For the Public Servants Sueakman, Mulholland and Arnold each scored a try. For Norfolk Road Joe Brown and Lester each scored a try. The game was '.controlled by Mr. “Tiger” Timms. The Public Servants’ team was as follows: Newman; M. Burrows, Robson, Mulholland; McLaggan, Arnold; Gamlin; J. Moores, Speakman, C. Shotter (wing-forward), Gerrihoefer, Scanlon, D. Allen, E. Burrows and J. O’Neill (hookers). . . The euchre and dance party held in the Inglewood Town Hall under the auspices of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was a success. There were 26 tables engaged in the euchre tournament. Mrs. Chard, sen., won the first prize and Mrs. Whalen the second after a replay. Messrs. Hogan and Huzziff won the first and Second prizes respectively. Mr. Lindsay conducted the tournament. The dancing floor was taxed to overflowing. The music was played by Boulton’s orchestra. Mr. H. R. Marsh played extras. Mr. Mclntyre was master of ceremonies. The supper arrangements were made by a committee of members.

Nominations for these races close with the secretary (Mr. Mervyn Lawson) on -the.
