A 40 per cent, reduction in wages for all classes of workers is contained in a proposal by country sawmillers for a new award. The proposals, if given effect, would reduce a labourer’s wage from 15s daily, less 10 per cent., to 9s, and skilled workers from 18s to 10s. There is also a proposal to increase the week from 47 to 48 hours.
