ROAD RACE TO DES. GEORGE. C. PARKER MAKES FASTEST TIME. The opening road races of the season under the auspices of the New Plymouth Cycle and Athletic League were decided on Saturday. Splendid weather prevailed and eleven riders competed in the open race of six and a-half miles, while four boys with roadster cycl.-s started in the messengers’ race. Des. George won the open event, while his younger brother Doug George gained first place and fastest time in the boys’ race. The officials present were;' Judges, Messrs F. E; "Orbell, W. Yardley, W. Also started; C. Parker scr, N. Bellringer- 30sec, T. HoOkham 30sec, J. Wigg Imin, H. Eva ljmin, S. Rodgers 2min, W. Martin 24min. There was little change of order on the outward journey, but Parker had caught the 30sec. boys at the Bell Block stores. George left Rodgers at the turn and caught Plucke at the Bell Block stores on the return journey. Stafford and Knight were still together, making a good race of it. George left Plucke soon Rafter Bell Block and had to ride hard to catch the two leaders less than a quarter of a mile from the finish. George won by about 50 yards, Knight just beating Stafford for second place. Plucke was about 300 yards farther back fourth, followed by Rodgeis. Parker beat Bellringer and Hookham home, the three finishing in a bunch.

Series points are: George 4, Knight 3, Stafford 2, Plucke 1, Parker 1. MESSENGER BOYS (roadster bicycles). Three miles.
