REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY
APPOINTMENTS OF REFEREES.
In reply to a letter from the Taranaki Rugby Union the Wellington Union advised the management committee, which met at Stratford last night, that it was opposed to the proposal that referees for interprovincial matches be appointed by the home union, and desired to continue the practice of the home union submitting names to the visiting team. The Wellington Union confirmed the date of June 29 for the Wellington v. Taranaki representative fixture. The South Auckland Union regretted. Taranaki was unable to include South Auckland in the northern tour, but extended the touring team an invitation to break the journey from Hamilton to Auckland at Pukekohe and be the quests of the union at luncheon. ° A cheque for £B3, half the gross gate at the Maori representative match between Wanganui and Taranaki, was forwarded, by the Wanganui Union. It was regretted that Henare, of Manaia, was hurt badly enough to be sent to hospital. I It was ' decided to play a return Taranaki v. Wanganui Maori match at New Plymouth instead of the B match. It was stated that St. Patrick’s College had decided to visit Hawera to play New Plymouth High School during the winter show.
