TRANSPORT APPEAL BOARD
PURELY JUDICIAL BODY. STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT. Members of the Transport Appeal Board do not represent any particular inimsts. The fact that Mr. Thomas Jordan, o£ Masterton, and Mr. Lisle Aiderton, of Auckland, were nominated respectively by ths municipal authorities and motor interests appears to have created an impression in some quarters that as members of the board they represent those particular interests.. Mr. Justice Frazer pointed out at Christ” church this week that the board is a judicial body and that neither of his colleagues represents any particular interests, and though they were nominated by interested' parties they were selected and appointed by the Minister. “Members of the Transport Appeal Board,” said His Honour, “do not think it proper to enter into any public controversy with interested parties, but it is necessary to remove a misconception that apparently exists in regard to the constitution of the board. In order that the board maybe a judicial body and function as such it is provided that no member of the. Appeal Board is to be interested directly or indirectly in any motor concern. The existence of any sifch . interest is a disqualification from office.
“It may be added that all three of ua are members of the legal profession of over 20 years’ standing.”
