TRAINING BOYS AT FLOCK HOUSE SOUTH TARANAKI SEEKS FUNDS. Tb« scheme whereby soije of New Zealand ex-servicemen were eligible for training in farming pursuits at Flock House received very favourable consideration at a meeting at Hawera last night when delegates from the Hawera Chamber of Commerce, the South Taranaki provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union, the local Rotary Club, the Hawera branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, and the South Taranaki Returned Soldiers’ Association decided to appeal to the general public to subscribe £5O for the fees of the two trainees allowed South" Taranaki.

Mr. M. R. Jones, president of the South Taranaki Returned Soldiers’ Association, which body convened the meeting, presided. The organisations represented are to lend the appeal every assistance and subscription lists are to be opened in banks, in the country districts of Waimate West, Hawera, Eltham end Patea, including town board and borough districts within that area. The scheme as previously explained in the News was outlined by the chairman. After some discussion Mr. P. Bond (Chamber of Commerce) said he was of opinion that the whole scheme should be submitted to the public in order to give each individual the opportunity to assist, lit) thought there would be no difficulty in raising £5O for such a worthy object. Mr. B. McCarthy (Chamber of Commerce) moved in that direction and his motion was carried without dissent. Messrs. Bond, J. Houston (Rotary Club) and M. C. Crighton (R.S.A.) were appointed a committee to organise the appeal, and it was decided that the delegates present should meet for progress' reports in a week’s time. At the conclusion of the meeting a subscription list was opened and the sum of £2 5s 6d w - as collected. Following are the details: M. R. Jones ss, C. Frey berg ss, W. J. Bright ss, R. H. Lecce ss, J. H Houston ss, P. Bond ss, B. McCarthy ss, B. C. Bennett ss, H. D. Maslin 3s, W. H. James 2s 6d. GENERAL ITEMS. In the course of his reminiscences at the Manaia jubilee dinner yesterday Mr. W. S. The Hawera office of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., has received the following cabled advice from London: Butter is 96s to 975, and cheese is 54s to 555, The market is slow.

The fortnightly euchre party was held in the Whareroa hall last Thursday. There was a fair number present and an enjoyable evening was spent.
