BAND OF HOPE AND PERSONAL. The monthly meeting of the Upper Mangorei Band of Hope was held on Saturday, when there was a good attendance. Mr. Jackson presided owing to the unavoidable absence of the Rev. C. Eaton.

The programme included violin solos by Master J. Cooper, elocutionary items by Mrs. Browh, recitations by Rex Spencer, Heather Johnston, Bert Spencer, -Patty West, Wilkie Johnston, Zelma Radford, Vina and Cathie Jamieson, Bill Balsom, Charlie Jackson and Betty Pearce, humorous dialogue by Masters Cooper and Hay ton, a song by Muriel Knauf, and part .songs by Jessie Reid, Jean Wood, Pearl Spencer, Cathie and Vina Jamieson, Betty Pearce, Rex Spencer, Bill Balsom, Charlie Jackson, Leslie West. Community singing was led and accompanied by Master J. Cooper. Gaines were played till supper was served. A vote of thanks was accorded the performers, including Mr. Brown, who motored the friends from New Plymouth. • Mr. J. D. Pearce, Miss G. Pearce and Mr. G. Pearce, Wanganui, motored round the mountain last week. They spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Corkill, Pihama.

Miss M. Hawk is on holiday at Hawera.

Misses D. Pearce and J. Balsom stayed for a few days with Mrs. W. Pearce, Smart Road.

Air. and Airs. 11. Chapman, Inglewood, are staying with Mrs. S. Flay. Mies J. Young spent the week with her aiint, Mrs. J. Reid. Miss D. Reid has returned from a visit to her uncle, Mr. C. Binnie. Mrs. H. Wood is leaving the hospital and going to stay with Airs. T. Wood. Waitara,
