SYDNEY ROYAL COMMISSION DEALINGS WITH CARRIERS MATTERS FOR EXPLANATION By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 11.50 p.m. Sydney, June S. The Royal Commission has opened the inquiry into the conduct of Charles Goode, Chief Transport Commissioner, while he was goods superintendent of the Railways Department prior to 1930.
The main features of the inquiry as outlined by the Crown are whether Goode granted preference to a certain carrying firm for the carriage of railways goods parcels, and if so what was the consideration? It is further asked whether he received any pecuniary benefit from a certain motor firm in connection with the purchase of lorries. Goode will be asked to explain the receipt of a cheque for £lOO from a carrying contractor whose contract was extended from one to three years. The hearing was adjourned till June 20.
