RESULTS OF HEAVY WEIGHTS. The heavy-weight pulls were contestj ed on Tuesday, the results being;— First Round. Taranaki Maoris beat Manaia Road, holding the strain throughout except on two occasions. Black and White (Pungarehu) beat Waimate, winning by 10 inches after holdinw the pull all the time. Soutk Island beat Waiokura. It wa& a fairly even contest at first. South Island gained 4 inches and finished with that lead after holding for the remainder of the spell. Second Round. ~ Taranaki Maoris beat Black and White by 3 inches. The pull was evenly divided at the outset but the winners settled down to a steady strain with 3 inches to spare and were never shifted. Manaia Road beat Waimate by six inches after taking a steady lead and maintaining it throughout. Black and White beat Waiokura by two inches, after holding the lead. Waiokura made a good showing but failed to get across. Third Round. Taranaki beat South Island by five inches. They gained this lead early in the null and were never, disnlaeed.
