HORSES FOR MELBOURNE

LANDMARK AND MAKE UP. COPEY TO MAKE TRIP ALSO. An announcement that he has decided to race his jumpers Landmark, Make Up and Appledore in Victoria and that arrangements are being made to have them shipped to Sydney, en route to Melbourne, was made on Monday by Mr. JJ. Corry, Blenheim. The horses will leave Auckland by train to-morrow afternoon and will be placed on board the Zealandia which leaves Wellington for Sydney on Friday. Mr. Corry ? s horses are to be accompanied by the Great Northern Steeplechase winner, Copey, owned by Mr. J. Fryer, Hawera. Mr. Corry may also send another horse over to join them. I. Tucker, who rode Copey to victory in the Great Northern Steeplechase, will go over with that horse and will ride him in his engagements in Australia. Mr. Fryer will follow his charge next week.

The object of the trip is for Landmark, Make Up and Copey to compete in important jumping events at the Victoria Racing Club’s meeting at Flemington on July 2, 6 and 9. Landmark and Make Up are in both the Grand National Hurdles, run on the first day, and the Grand National Steeplechase, run on the third day, and Copey is in the Steeplechase. The horses are all in fine form at present and in view of their good efforts in the Great Northerns their running in Melbourne will be followed with interest.

Appledore has not yet won over hurdles and he will be raced in minor jumping events. His efforts at the Auckland winter meeting were encouraging and he would probably have finished closer than third in the Panmure Hurdles on Saturday only for the s’act that he was seriously interfered with when Arcade fell.
