WOMEN’S DIVISION AND SOCIAL.
The interest -being displayed in the newly-formed branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union at Okato was evidenced by the attendance of 26 ladies at the monthly meeting in the hall on Tuesday. Several new members joined and three vice-presidents were
elected. Mrs. T, E. Larking, “Puketarata,” Hempton Road, was elected hou. secretary in place of Miss Ashley, who resigned owing to her approaching marriage. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Ashley for her short but valuable .lt was decided to hold a “bring, and buy” afternoon and to arrange a plain and fancy s<?one competition, Mrs.,.P. G. Knight consenting to act as judge. The basketball club’s card party and dance attracted a large crowd du Thursday. To music supplied by Miss Gilhooly, dancing was carried oil in the hall,’ while ; euchre was played in- the supper room; < The card winners were Mrs. Edwards and Mr. Jim Brophy, and Mr. Ern-Julian won the cake competition. The committee was Misses Norah Paul, N. and F. McCabe, M. Brophy, Joyce Larking and Mary Churchill’ Messrs, Hugh'Paul'and E. McCabe Were masters of ceremonies.' ■
The church card evening on . Saturday was well patronised, about GO being present. Prizes were gained ■by Mrs Jenkins, Miss Chard, -Mr. L. 11. Andrews and Mr. A. Hoskin. .The ladies’ -guild supplied supper.
Results of Saturday’s basketball are: Okato A 15 v. Oaonui 4, at Oaonui; Okato Bl 10 v. Warea B 6, at Okato; Okato B2 5 v. Rahotu 13, at Rahotu.
