SUDDEN ADVANCE IN ONIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. There has been more life in the produce market during the last few days than for a long time.. Potatoes have further advanced. Tubers for prompt delivery are quoted to-day at £5 17s 6d f 0.b.. sacks in, June delivery at £6 and July delivery at £6 15s. A fair amount, of business has taken place in prompt and June deliveries. August-September delivery are quoted at £7 10s. . The Waipiata sailed on Saturday night with approximately 12,000 sacks of potatoes from all southern ports. She will arrive in Auckland to-morrow. The Waimarino is due to sail to-mgyt with only a small consignment of a icw hundred sacks from Lyttelton and 800 from Timaru. Prices to farmers for prompt potatoes are £5 a ton. Farmers are not very keen sellers at this pi ice. Onions have met with a meteoric rise since the week-end. They advanced m quick stages from £ll to £l2 and tnen £l3 a ton f.0.b., sacks in, and sales are reported to have taken place at up to £l4, with sellers asking £lu.
