PERSONAL AND GENERAL.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A further cribbage evening was held on Saturday last when about 20 men were present. The prize went to Mr. Vincent Wells, who won 11 out of .the 12 o-ames. The winner of the previous week’s tournament was Mr. Evans. On Wednesday the fortnightly euchre party and. dance was held. Approximately 60 people were present, some of whom were from neighbouring districts. Mrs. G. Baker won the ladies’ prize, with 9J games. The men’s prize was won by Mr. W. Savage, with the possible 12 games. After an enjoyable supper dancing was continued until a late hour. Splendid music was provided by Miss Edwin. Mr. V. Wells proved a capable master of ceremonies. In the Daily News recently a local was given concerning a crop of pumpkins grown in a neighbouring district. A crop grown by Mr. A. Baker compares more than 1, favourably with the one mentioned. One pumpkin, 1021 b. in weight, is on show at the Waitara branch of the Farmers’ Co-op., while many others are of equal and heavier weights. Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P., and his wife and family, are spending a holiday at their country residence. Mrs. P. J. Kinniburgh, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. E. Cumming, Pukearuhe.
Mr. Gordon Scott left for Auckland last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Elwin, Auckland, are visiting Mrs. H. Wells. They were formerly residents of this district. Mr. and Mrs. Quickenden and family, Patea, spent a short time with Mrs. P. Carey. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Orchard, Korito, Mrs. Walter Pope ai;d son, Tokomaru, ;\nd Mrs. Ngaio Pope, Palmerston North, have been visiting Mrs. Herbert. Sympathy is extended to Mr, Herbert in the loss "of his sister, Mrs. W. Paynter, Stratford.
