JUNIOR RUGBY IN SOUTH

JnXTHRE’S COMMITTEE MEET. ©NE DIVISION THIS YEAR. ■ With th® object of strengthening junior Rugby football in South Taraiaki the fixture’s committee, which met *f Hawera on Friday night, decided that the Western Division should this year be incorporated in the Southern Division, which means that the Rahotu, Opunake, Kaponga and Waimate lower grade teams will compete with Hawera, Athletic, Okaiawa and Patea teams. Mr. J. W. Paterson presided over delegates from all these clubs. The decision to change was not reached without discussion, for while *ll the delegates were in agreement that it would be in the best interests of the game to play these teams in the one division, the question, of travelling expenses for teams like Patea, Rahotu and Opunake was felt to be of the greatest importance. Many of the clubs would be involved in expense which they could ill afford. The motion embracing' the change was put to the meeting but an amendment to the effect that the divisions remain. aS in 1931 was moved. , Voting on the question resultyod in a. “tie,” and it was upon the i casting vote of the .chairman that the motion was carried. In order to minimise the expenses of the Patea and Rahotu teams, it was decideo. that, in the first round at. least, their match should be played on a neutral. ground, Manaia being the favoured location. . A recommendation, which is to be 'brought before the Taranaki Rugby •Union is that endeavours should be made to arrange a junior representative game. The executive set up to handle matters concerning junior football in South Taranaki was as follows: Messrs. J. B. Rowe (Union), Johnson (Okaiawa), D. C. Ryan (Athletic) and W. Cropp ’(Ha’wera).
