SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. The final meeting of the present school committee was held in the Urenui school on Wednesday. Mr. L. Rattenbury presided over a full attendance. , The head teacher. reported that the school month had begun with a roll of 70 and ended with 7'2. The aver-, age roll had been 71, and the average attendance 65.8. Intermittent sickness had been responsible for some irregularity in attendance. School work had gone on steadily, the work in the grounds had been maintained, and additional work had been done. The 'board’s inspectors (Messrs. Henry and Hawke), had visited the school during the month and it had been arranged 'with Mr. McKay, who also had visited 'the school during the month, to continue improvements to the grounds. 'With regard to the children visiting the dental clinic from April 18 the teacher had circularised the parents concerned and had given the necessary particulars for their guidance. The pathway giving access to the school building from the gateway was urgently in need of a load or two of gravel, and the fences were needing attention. Arrangements in connection with splitting pinus insignia firewood for the school’s requirements made by the chairman and Mr. Henwood were confirmed by the committee. The report and balance sheet disclosed a satisfactory year’s working. GENERAL AND PERSONAL ITEMS. The spinsters’ and bachelors’ dance held on Wednesday in aid of the football club was well attended. A competition was won by Mr. F. Healey, who redonated the prize, which was finally won by Mr. H. Jury. The music was supplied by McNeill’s orchestra. Messrs. G. Smith and R. Pigott were masters of ceremonies.. Miss V. Schieb entertained a number of friends at Waitoitoi on Wednesday afternoon. Competitions were won by Miss Hutchison and Mrs. G. N. Fuller. Among . those present were Mesdames G. Sal way, T. J. O’Riordan, E. J. Sulzberger, W. L. Larsen, H. Grylls, G. Goods, G. N. Fuller, S. A. Managh, A. J. Halcombs and A. Vaughan, Misses Kent and Hutchison.
Mr. D. Neumann is acting-postmaster during Mr. G. Loveridge’s absence on annual leave.
Mr. J. S. O’Neill, who has been the guest of Mrs. A. Gibson, has returned to Palmerston North.
Mr. and Mrs. D. Barton and family, who have been camping on , the Urenui beach, have returned to Te Kuiti.
