SPORT AND GENERAL ITEMS. A general meeting of members of the Opunako Golf Club, presided ovei by Mr. Geof. Feaver, on Thursday night appointed Mr. C. 0. Edmonds secretary. After a good deal of discussion the meeting decided not to go further with the proposed acquirement of a portion of the harbour board reserve. The recent alterations to the course will not affect the bogey so far as the men players are concerned. The lady players will make their own decision. Recommendations made to the ladies’ club were that one Wednesday each month be devoted to mixed foursomes, and that if possible in their matches the ladies should play threesomes apd foursomes. The newly-formed mountain club will hold the initial outing next week-end. A successful euchre party organised by the library committee was held in the Anglican hall on Wednesday. The prizewinners were Mrs. Magee 1, Mis. D. Ross 2; Mr. W. Fake 1, Mr. E. Piper 2. Special prizes were won by Mesdames Parsons, Elliot, Mourie and Mr. Peat. Supper was provided by the ladies. Mr. C. A. Smith, chairman of the library committee, mentioned that the proceeds of the evening were to be used to purchase new books for the public library. A meeting of the Ladies’ Welfare League was°held in the primary school on 'Thursday afternoon. Mrs. W. H. Burgess presided. The balance-sheet from the tea rooms at the school sports showed a credit of £5 3s. An invitation was received to view the work of the cooking and sewing classes at the high school on Thursday. It was decided to suspend meetings during the winter. The first euchre party in aid of Catholic Church funds was held in St. Patrick’s Hall on Friday. There was a fair attendance and an enjoyable evening was spent. Mrs. A. Gadsby was the successful lady with Miss K. Fevre second. The men’s prizes were awarded to lilr. C. Markham 1 and Mr. C. 0. Edmonds 2. Supper was served by the ladies, Mrs. Edmonds being the hostess.
