MARKET FOR FOWL WHEAT
INTEREST IN QUESTION OF DUTY.
POTATOES SLIGHTLY EASIER.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. ■' Christchurch, Last Night. The market for fowl wheat is a trifle steadier. Discussion in the House-of .Representatives concerning free entry into the Dominion of wheat for poultry is affecting inquiry. In ge meantime values are nominally 4s 9d to 4s 9Jd, though in the mid-week some sales were" made. at 4s lOd for prompt delhThe' oats market continues quiet. Local A Gartons are quoted at 3s to 3-s Id on trucks and B at -2s 9d at southern ports. The quotations f.o.b sacks in, are 3s 7d for A and 3s 4d for B. Algerians are quoted locally at 3s to 3s 3d on trucks. Chaff is in weak demand, being quoted nominally at 70s on trucks. Potatoes are slightly easier. The quotation for April delivery is £5 10s, fob. sacks in; for May-June, £a 7s 6d to £s’ 10s, and for July-September £6 17s 6d to £7. The amount of business passing at the moment is limited. The season is a little late. this year and the main digging is not likely to be in full swing until early next month. The autumn seed trade is over, and there is no overseas inquiry. Very, little is offering from farmers and it is to be presumed that most of the seed is in the hands of merchants.
