LIFE-SAVING FOR SCHOOLS.

GIRDS’ HIGH SCHOOL EXAMINATION

The'final examination for the Brodie Cup, awarded for land drill and lifesaving, were held at : the New Plymouth Girls’ High School yesterday. During the term the whole. school had been instructed in the subject, senior girk being set over each form, and the work had proceeded under the supervision of Miss Taylor. . For the competition teg-ms of eight girls each had been chosen 1 to represent each form, -and the preliminaries, judged by Mrs. Govenlock, had been held during the first part of the week. In the final yesterday were left forms 3A (instructor, Frona King), 40 (Alison White), representing the third and fourth forms respectively, and forms 5C (Joyce Barnitt) and 6 (Gwen Avery) representing the senior forms. The examination took -the form _of oral questions and a written paper for the instructors, with land drill and lifesaving for the teams. Miss. Dowling examined them orally, Dr. Davie marked the written work, and the drill was judged by Miss Dowling, assisted by Mrs. Govenlock. The winners of the cup were the 6th form, represented by Gwen .Avery (instructor), M. Mawhinney, J. Medley, N. Garcia, M. Lynch, M. Frethey, E. Lynch, L. Baldwin and J. Richardson.
