GIFT OF £160,000 TO BRITAIN
LADY HOUSTON MAKES OFFER.
PROMISE FOR DEFENCE FORCES. Recd. 7.0 p.m. London, April 14. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Lady Houston, possessor of millions, has written Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, offering a cheque for £200,000 instead of a cheque for £40,000 due as income tax. She proposes that the extra amount go towards the cost of an adequate army, navy and air force, whicli Lady Houston considers requires an addition of £5,000,000 in the coming Budget. Lady Houston adds that if 19 others do the same as sbe has done the paltry sum required to ensure national safety will be found.
