GOOD CIRCUIT OPENS AT THAMES BIG FIELDS ENGAGED TO-DAY. (Special to News.) Trotting enthusiasts in the Auckland m-ovince will have a feast of light harness sport during the next few weeks. a snlendid circuit has been arranged, fpentag at Thames to-day. This will be followed by meetings at Te Arolia the following Saturday, Auckland on April 30, Cambridge on May 8,-and in all probability the Waikato Club will holda special fixture on May ta, utilising one of the floating permits. Last sefson the Hamilton Club held an extra day’s racing and came out of it flip 6 ide. Several horses that raced at New Plymouth recently are engaged at Thames to-day, including Sister" Rose, Mr. Penalty, Princess Thea and Astral, all of whom showed good form on the Tara-naki-Wanganui circuit. Other pacers that raced on the circuit just concluded are booked to appear at Te Arolia and subsequent fixtures, and with a large number of horses operating at Epsom, Qtahuhu and in the Waikato, there will be no scarcity of competitors on the northern circuit. Judging by the great list of entries for Te Arolia, the fields for that fixture will probably be the largest seen in the North Island for several years; Every race at Thames to-day will be keenly fought out by a large number, of horses. Mr. Penalty and Sister Rose are the main fancies for the Cup, and Princess Thea and Raydus are in most demand for the “second ’ leg,” the Kopu Handicap. In the novice heats the fields are unwieldy, and with at least a dozen improving maidens of equal calibre the results are very difficult to determine. There will be two or three rows among the limit lot, and post positions will be the chief guide for those on the course. The following may be accorded most support in the respective events:—Hikutaia Handicap: Gold Seam, Pukemiro, Mazda. Kerepeehl Handicap: Astral, Eleawah, Great Fame. Parana! Handicap: Bingen Bell, Wm Huon, Tiwha. Thames Cup: Mr. Penalty, Sister Rose, Bingen Crest. Puriri Handicap (saddle): Marosa, Nathaniel, Jersey Thorpe. Tur.ua Handicap: Pukemiro, Gold Seam; Fisher. President’s Handicap: Aloko Girl, Bessie Parrish.

Kopu Handicap: Princess Thea, Raydus, Sister Rose.
