NEW HALL COMMITTEE CHOSEN.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

In no wise dismayed by the weather conditions, a number of residents met outside the residence of Mr. J. M. Sharpe on Wednesday and celebrated with the usual “orchestral” honours the marriage of Mr. Sharpe’s daughter, Nellie. Later the “tin-canners” were invited into the house and the celebrations were continued until a late hour, coucludino- with honours a degree more musical tlian those of the early evening. The final euchre and dance evening organised by the old Koru hall committee.was held on Friday, April 8. The early part of the evening was devoted to euchre. The Judies’ prizes were won by Miss C. Yeates and Miss K. Looney, while the men's trophies were captured by Mr. N. Jury and Mr. Staveley. Supper, provided by the ladies of the district, was served by the committee, and the floor was then cleared for dancino’. Mr. P. Meredith was at the piano, while Mr. J. Green acted as master of ceremonies. A competition, for which the prize was a goose donated by Mr. Staveley, was won by Mr. K. Green. The annual meeting of householders for the election of a hall committee was held on Tuesday. Mr. W. Bentham presided over a small attendance. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of 4s Bd. Iu view of the difficult season experienced throughout the district this was considered very satisfactory, and the retiring committee was congratulated upon its work. At the subsequent election Messrs. J. Green, W. Bentham, W. Wiltshire, J. Bentham, K. Green, L. Looney, C. Pease, F. MacGregor and 0. Sharpe were appointed a committee for the ensuing twelve months, Mr. J. Bentham acting as chairman and Mr. W. Wiltshire as secretary. The> first series of euchre and dance evenings is to be commenced shortly; in the meantime a working bee is to be held in the hall grounds, and the ladies of the district are thinking of holding a bazaar in aid of hall funds. The members of the girls’ club have donated a number of books to be sold for ths same purpose.
