HUTT MEN’S GRIEVANCES
THE DISTRIBUTION OF RELIEF THREATENING MOTION• PASSED., SUSTENANCE TO BE GIVEN TO-DAY. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Grievances in connection with rations to-day at Hutt led to some trouble with the unemployed. The Mayor was absent but the deputy-Mayor (Mr. Mitchell) heard of the matter and invited demonstrators to the , Lyceum Hall, where he asked for a concise statement of the grievances, which related not only to methods of distribution but also to prices charged and to quality in the case of meat.
Despite the warning of Mr. Mitchell as to the serious nature of the motion, the following was carried: “That failing an immediate satisfactory reply by the meeting, we will wait en masse upon the charitable aid officials; and that if we do not get what we want we will take it.”
After considering the grievances of the men from reports presented by the deputy-Mayor, the hospital and charitable aid officials issued the following statement: t
“Three and four-day men who lost time last week and will lose time this week may obtain relief from here on Friday morning from 11 o’clock onwards. A deputy from the various jobs may obtain the chits for his gang if the ganger will supply the necessary list of: men affected.
The message will be delivered to the men this afternoon.
