STRATFORD WINTER SHOW
SUCCESSFUL YEAR REPORTED. MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. To the fine organisation and careful attention to detail, which was particularly marked, at last year’s show, can be attributed the fact that the financial affairs of . the" Stratford Poultry and Winter Show Association, as disclosed to the annual meeting last night, are in a sound position. Mr. A. J. Davey presided over a large attendance.
“We have not made the usual strides this year but the show was .a distinct success in every way and was one of the very few winter shows to return a profit,” said the chairman in reviewing the events of the year. This result, Mr. Davey said, had been chiefly due to the policy of the executive in reducing overhead expenses and in making a strong canvass for entries. The increase in the root section had been a credit to the district. The courts had also been very creditable. The fancy section had been a big improvement on that of previous years, while home industries had easily maintained their reputation. The main loss had been experienced in the industrial section, in which space fees had amounted to £I3S, as compared with £236 the previous year—a loss of £9B. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. S. A. Mann; president, Mr. A. J. Davey; vice-presidents, Messrs. F. T. Hale, A. W. Reed and H. J. Hopkins; executive, Messrs. M. Gernhoefer, F. Kirkwood, W. E. Jones, AV. Cannon, C. Murray, J. M. Steiner, J. H. Ward, R. Wellington, C. Grant and A. T. Sulzberger; secretary, Mr. W. F. Ross; treasurer, Mr, W. McAloon; auditor, Mr. G. A. Carter; honorary solicitor, Mr. R. V. Kav.
A large general committee was appointed. Messrs. D. McGuiness, J. Squires, C. Healy and W, Hooker were elected members.
The retiring secretary, Mr. F. T. Hale, was voted an honorarium of £lO IQs.
