ELTHAM THEATRE. “THE NIPPER.” To-night’s audience at the Eltham Theatre will be pleased with the British picture “The Nipper,” a United Artists’ production featuring the versatile Betty Balfour. It has just the correct proportion of brightness and Badness to make a direct appeal. It is a. very human and decidedly sophisticated story of a waif whose destiny momentarily appears to be tied up in the environs of a cheap cabaret. Her job is to please the patrons per medium of song and dance, and the opening qpisodes of the production visualise her in such sursoundings. The story is one that moves with such speed, however, that the onlooker is whisked from one scene to another with speed that is to say the least lightning-like. As it- unwinds the play affords an ever-changing appeal—drama, comedy, suspense and abundant action. Though drama for the most part provides the background of the picture, the remarkable versatility of Betty Balfour is 'frequently demonstrated by means of several vocal numbers that tend to temper the tenser ninninnf,g.
