MORE OPTIMISTIC TONE
AUSTRALIAN SHAREMARKET.
IMPROVEMENT IN BOND MARKET.
By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 10 p.m. Sydney, April 12. A more optimistic tone was evident on the Stock Exchange to-day. Commonwealth bonds all improved a few points. Bank of New South Wales shares were firmer at £2B 2s, Commercial Bank of Sydney sold at £l5 6s Bd, New Zealand per cent., 1937, debentures at £lOB 15s. . . The volume of business m front-line industrials was somewhat larger than usual. Sales were: Australian Gas A, £5 10s 6d; Toohey’s, 16s 6d; Tooth’s, 265; Henry Jones, 29s 3d; British Tobacco, 29s 3d; Goldsbrough Mort, 24s Ijd- Winchcombe, Carson, 18s 4ld; Dunlop ’Perdriai (pref.), 24s 9d; Australian Glass, 355; Broken Hill Proprietary, 15s 3d- South Broken Hill, 41s; Zinc Corporation 24s 9d. The possibility of an early change in the Victorian Government caused brisk trading on the Melbourne Exchange. Early sales were: British Tobacco, 29s lid; Goldsbrough Mort, 24s Id; Dunlop Perdriau (pref.), 255; Herald and Times, 43s 6d; Metropolitan Gas, 2025; North Broken HiH> 60s; South Broken Hill, 40s 10£d; Sulphide Corporation, 9s 4d; Mt, Lyell, 20b 4}d. _ „
