MAORI GUIDES AT LAW
CIVIL CASE AT ROTORUA.
transaction for two years.
Much interest was taken by Whakarewarewa Maoris in a case heard in the Magistrate’s Court at Rotorua on Tuesday, when Guide Beatrice sued Guide Rangi for the recovery of a piupiu, or its value, £2 10s Plaintiff alleged she had given the piupiu to Rangi to sell on her account. The sale had fallen through and although two years had elapsed she had not had it returned to her. In evidence Rangi contended that the piupiu had been returned to plaintiff by her sister. . Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in giving a verdict for defendant, said it was peculiar that two vears had elapsed and no demand had been‘made until there had been some trouble between the parties in which the plaintiff had to apologise to the defendant for what had been said against her.
