HURFORD ROAD NEWS

■PERSONAL AND GENERAL. The annual meeting of the Hurlord Road Hall Society was held on Monday evening with a small attendance. The receipts for the year totalled £4l 8s 9d, of which euchre parties brought in £33 3s, while the expenditure°amounte(l to £39 17s. The balance remaining at the bank was £5 9s 7d. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Baily and Lovell for making out the balance-sheet free of charge, to Mesdanies Lynch, Spence and Higgins for carin" for the hall throughout the year, and to Mcsdame's Maloney and Watson for assisting with suppers. The election of officers resulted:—(Patron, Mr. S. Vickers; president, Mr. K. Spe’nce; vice-president, Mr. M. Reynolds; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. R. Higgins; committee, Messrs Maloney, Lynch, Williams, Watson, Walsh, E. Seamark, F. Higgins jun., Hoffman and Schrider. It was decided to commence the euchre parties on April 14 and' the aggregate a fortnight later. Mr. George Duke jun. is spending his annual holidays in Auckland. Mr. R. Marsh, accompanied by his son-in-law, Mr. J. McCurdy, has returned home from a motor tour in various parts of the North Island. Mr. L. Lyford will be leaving the district about the end of this month. He will in future reside on Dover Road, Okato. Some humorist caused sqme fun by putting some white carrot tbps on bamboo sticks and placing them in the middle of a neighbour’s paddock, much to the annoyance of passing motorists, who got out of their cars and walked through wet grass with visions of a big meal of mushrooms.

While playing at school recently a boy named Gordon Williams had the misfortune to fall off a email sledge, severely gashing his leg and having to be taken to New Plymouth to receive medical attention, several stitches being inserted. Mrs. J. Thomas, .Phemmy Road, is seriously ill in the New Plymouth Hospital.
