General Sir Andrew Russell hAs accepted an invitation to be present at the New Plymouth Anzac Day observances.
Mr. J. T. Burrows, Christchurch, a former international Rugby forward, has been appointed selector for Canterbury representative Rugby teams, states a Press Association message. Mr. R. H. Pigott, Urenui, has been operated on at the New Plymouth hospital, and his condition is now satisfactory. The Waitara Borough Council last night passed a resolution of sympathy with Mr. J. S. Connett because of the bereavement sustained by the death of Mrs. Connett.
At Hokitika on Tuesday night Mr. John' Jerome Breeze was presented with a purse of sovereigns and an illuminated testimonial in appreciation of his 50 years’ service as member and chairman of the Westland Hospital Board. Messrs. J. A. Valentine, deputy-chair-man of the Taranaki Education Board, and H. W. Insull, secretary, left for Wellington yesterday to attend a meeting of the committee which is to be held to-day to complete the report of th o recent conference of educational authorities for submission to the Minister of Education to-morrow.
Mrs. Fanny Louisa Lucas, wife of Mr. A. P. Lucas of the Nelson Mail directorate, whose death occurred last wee , had been a resident of Nelson for over 50 years, and with Mr. Lucas took a very keen and active interest in musica matters up to a few years ago. o about 30 years Mrs. Lucas was a member of the Nelson Harmonic Society orchestra, playing the violin under nibrose Moore, Zimmerman, Hanke, uauing and Lemmer. Willing assistance was also given in many other ways. " time she was organist of St. Church and for a long period a of the choir. Up to the time of her last illness Mrs. Lucas maintained remarkable skill for her age at the piano Mrs. Lucas, who would have celebrated hex golden wedding within two years, had been in failing health for some time.
