FITZROY GOLF COURSE

PLAY TO COMMENCE SATURDAY.

The golf course constructed by the Fitzroy Seaside Park Society will be opened for public play from Saturday. Six months ago the greater part of the land was a waste of lupin and gorse, ■but to-day it is the foundation of what in a short time should prove to be an ideal golfing course. The executive has acknowledged its indebtedness to Messrs P. Grey and C. H. Stephenson for advice and assistance and to the caretaker (Mr, A. E. Lewis). Several members have tested tho course recently and have found the fairways adequate and safe for play. Although there is improvement, and development, the work will be proceeded with regularly, and the next three months will show yet greater improvement. The executive intends io hold an official opening in a few weeks’ time. Members will by then know tho lay-out of the course and it will be possible to run a match competition in connection with tho official opening. All funds derived from the golf course will be applied by the society to the maintenance and improvement of tho course and for the general purposes of the society. Golf School. Private individual tuition and class instruction at the Burwood, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 7.30. Class night Wednesday, including slow-motion films of Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen and Archie Compston. Full particulars from John Lambic, Professional, New Plymouth Golf Club. a ~
