COST OF TRAVEL
AN exaggerated item. advice for tourists. In an address to the Wellington Travel Men’s League last week Mr. Marcus Marks remarked that many people denied themselves the pleasure of travel because they had an exaggerated idea of the cost. Some people who travelled became very lavish in their expenditure while doing so, although when at home they were content to live modestly. The cost of touring in recent years had been lowered and travel was not unattainable by a considerable section of the community. “One should not be too particular in European countries,” said Mr. Marks. “If you want to be economical, drink what your neighbours are drinking and eat what they eat. .If you ask for whisky iu France it will cost you three times what it is worth. When you are offered a frog’s shoulder you might as well keep quiet and eat it. It will not .hurt you and you will only meet expense if you begin worrying about getting plenty of .calories. Methuselah neverworried what was on his plate.”
