DEADLOCK AT SHANGHAI FINAL CONFERENCE HELD UP GENERAL DISAPPOINTMENT CHINESE OFFICIALS’ HOPE By Telegraph—Press Assn.— Copyright Shanghai, March 23. What is regarded as the final conference arranging for a cessation of hostilities failed to-day when the Chinese military representatives did not appear. It is now postponed indefinitely.
General disappointment is expressed at the breakdown of the conference when success appeared near. Chinese official circles are still hopeful that the conference will eventuate to-mor-row, but the sudden change of events is occasioning extreme pessimism, .
