SUPERANNUITANTS’ BONUS
COST OF LIVING PAYMENTS TERMINATION BEING CONSIDERED. CABINET REMINDED OF HARDSHIP. MAY TREAT CASES ON MERITS. By Telegraph.—Prcsi’ Association. Wellington, March 24. ■ Mr. W. Nash (Lab., Hutt) asked the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) in the House of Representatives to-day whether he would advise superannuitants receiving less than £lOO a year and who ere entitled to a cost-of-living bonus that a circular recently sent them advising that the, bonus would cease at the end of tl\e’month would not be made effective until the matter had been considered by Parliament. Mr. Forbes said the cost-of-living bonus was granted for six-monthly periods and under this system they would expire on March 31. The question whether the bonuses were to be continued would be considered by the Government upon the national expenditure commission’s submitting its final report. There were many cases of hardship, said Mr. Fraser (Lab., Wellington Central). He asked whether the Government would consider each case on its merits. < .
That' aspect of the question, Mr. Forbes said, would receive Cabinet’s consideration.
