MEMBERS’ QUARTERLY MEETING. RECENT WORK REVIEWED. The quarterly meeting of the . Taranaki Chamber of Commerce was held in New Plymouth last night, Mr. L. M. Moss presiding over an attendance of about 30 members. ( ( Reporting briefly on the work of the Chamber during the past quarter Mr. Moss said a useful discussion had taken place with various responsible people on the administration of the Bankruptcy Act. The appointment of assessors'and an advisory board in regard to the administration of the Mortgagors’ Relief Act had been advocated by the chamber and was incqrpdrated in the Bill The chamber attempted to have an unemployment camp established on the Waitara Valley Road, but was unsuccessful A visit to the Stratford-Main Trunk railway was arranged with the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, but was postponed oii account of the stringency of the times necessitating a slowing up of the completion of the railway. Trade with the West of England ports was another matter to which the chamber had given its attention. ' The last matter dealt with was the question of exchange. The chamber had been asked for its expression of opinion on the matter. The council had replied that it considered there should not be an artificial pegging of exchange, and in this respect the chamber had not altered its opinion. He personally was firmly of the opinion that the free operation of the exchange rate should not be interfered with. The rest of the meeting was devoted to a debate on the question of exchange.
