CONCLUDING DAY. RESULTS OF THE SPORTS. The second day of the Normanby show was held yesterday,' fine weather again favouring the attendance, which was large. The judging of the poultry and song birds was completed. The points prizes in this were won as follows: Poultry, J. Magill; song birds, Mrs. R. Smith. Jean Murray won the prize for points in the junior classes. Other points prizes went to the following: Cooking (girls under 16), Elsie Ogle; decorative, Sylvia Spratt; sewing (girls under 14), Florence Ogle; sewing (girls under 12), Constance Evans. The points prize for Highland dancing (Mr. T. bickering’s silver cup) was won by Margaret Lawrence. Mr.,G. Lee’s gold medal as points prize for pony events was won by Annie Wetton. The points prize for pickles and preserves was won by Miss R. Henry. Owing to an error in assessing the points this was erroneously given yesterday as Mrs. E. Thorpe. In the afternoon a programme of sports and Highland dancing was conducted and attracted much interest and keen competition. Of special interest was an exhibit by the Hawera High School consisting of plumbing work done by the pupils of the night class under Mr. Wm. Barker. This revealed a, good standard of workmanship! A special exhibition of 31 named varieties of potatoes by Mr. W. T. Parkinson was favourably commented on by those interested m this form of vegetable-growing, and Mrs. F. C. King’s special exliibit of knitted goods aroused keen interest among the ladies. Mr. H. Norton made an exhibition of snapshots, which was carefully viewed by those entering the hall. Mr. H. Betts senr. displayed a collection of 24 varieties of fruits. which, from his long experience, he has found most suitable for growing in Taranaki. Mr. W. G. Williams (Okaiawa) had an extensive exhibit of coleus and: Mrs. T. Orr (Ngaere) exhibited several varieties of sweet peas of delicate shades. The previous evening the tug-of-war proved interesting, ten teams competing. The pulls jwere conducted on the two-life system and the results were indicated on Mr. A. Russell’s patent electric recorder. The winner was the Eltham team, which came through without a loss. ‘The Normanby Dairy Company’s team w’ith only one loss was runner-up after pulling with Matapu.
