PELLEW SHIELD CROQUET
KAWAROA WINS COMPETITION. PUKEKURA BEATEN IN THE. FINAL. The Pellew Shield croquet matches were concluded .yesterday on the New Plymouth lawn, when Pukekura and Kawaroa played in the final, they having drawn with six points -each.' Kawaroa won by 145 points to 1111. Results are: Kawaroa 8 points, Pukekura Park 6, Fitzroy 4, Central 4, West End 0. Yesterday’s scores, Pukekura mentioned first, are:—Mesdames Broad • and Short 26 v. Mrs. Hodder ani Miss Beal 18, Mesdames L. Bellringer and N. Bellringer 26 v. Mesdames McKay and Cox 23, Mrs. Broad 19 v. Mrs. Hodder 26, Mrs. Short 16 v. Miss Beal 2'6, Mrs. -L. Bellringer 21 v. Mrs. McKay 26, Mrs. N. Bellringer 3 v. Mrs. Cox 26. AFTERNOON AT PUKEKURA PARK. PLAY BY TOURNAMENT HELPERS. An afternoon for those who assisted with the conduct of the last, annual Taranaki croquet tournament in New Plymo.uth was held at, the Pukekura Park Croquet Club lawns on Friday. About 40 members competed and there were many others present as onlookers. The weather was fine and an enjoyable time .was spent. Progressive croquet competitions wei e held, prizes being donated by the president -and two vice-presidents. The A grade competition was won by Mrs. Jull with 33 points and the B grade by Mrs. Allen with 37, points, In a hidden score Competition three 'players tied with the .'hidden number and in the play-off Mrs. Avery won. A consolation A grade competition was won by Mrs. Griffin with nine points. Mrs. Vickers and Mrs. P. White tied with 11 points each in the last competition, which Mrs. Vickers won after a play-off.
Afternoon tea was served and was in the hands of Mesdames Martin, Clark, Brown and Johnson.
The afternoon concluded with thanks to the Pukekura Park Club for the use of its lawns and to Mrs. Morris for the organisation of. the afternoon.
