WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. BIRTHDAY.
Twelve months ago a branch of the Women’s Institute was- formed at Mangatpki, and to celebrate the anniversary a garden party was held on Saturday at the beautiful grounds of Mr., and Mrs. T.- B. Crump, Eltham. Perfect weather made the function .very enjoyable, and .there was a large attendance. The president (Mrs. R. D. Douglass) welcomed the visitors and thanked, the host and hostess for having placed their charming home at the disposal qf the institute. She also thanked the Eltham members for their kind assistance.
Mrs. A. Mahon (vice-president) added thanks to the maker and decorator of the birthday cake. This was a beautiful two-tier cake baked by Mrs. Douglass and decorated with the institute’sBadge and a single candle by Mrs. G. Duncan, Hawera. Mrs. Crump replied expressing pleasure at the presence, of The members. ■ Afternoon tea was served by the- EKtham members and musical, items were contributed by Mrs. Douglass, vocal solo; Miss. Beach, A.T.C.L.,, pianoforte solos; Mesdames Douglass and Clements,, vocal duet. Games and competitions were held. TENNIS CLUB’S DANCE.
The Mangatqki Tennis Club held -an enjoyable dance on Tuesday . evening. There was a good attendance of, local residents, and other tennis clubs .were well represented with visitors. Mrs. Attrill’s orchestra played excellent music, great appreciation being shown by insistent encores. Assisting with extras were Messrs. M. .Thompson, A. M. Wilson and. Baines. Mr. L. R. Pease, was master of ceremonies. Monte. Carlo dances were won by Mr. Latham' ahd Miss Callaghan and Mr. B. McMillan and Mrs. McDougall.
