EXPANSION OF CREDITS

(To the Editor.) Sir,—ln reading your leader in the issue of the 7th inst., one wonders if you have no constructive advice to give re the present very real problems of opening up employment and a means of livelihood to the people of this country. Our Government and, indeed, every other source of employment is being more and more restricted on the score of economy. How are you going to deal with an unemployed, discontented, hungry, homeless people? We have a country gorged with all the good and necessary things of life. Why not, as the economists suggest, expand our credits so that useful and productive work may proceed, that men may have the right without charity to feed, clothe and house those dependent upon them ? We must get ; away from the old ideas of finance. We have a right to honest independent living, and unless these problems are tackled right now there will be an upheaval, like an earthquake, that will alter the whole aspect of our national life. Exchange high or low, we must find a way that our people may be fed and clothed and be contentedly employed.—l am, etc., ACTION.
