TELEPHONE SUBSCRIBERS

LOSS NOT CONSIDERED SERIOUS.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.

Wellington, Last Night. In a statement to-day with regard to the loss of telephone subscribers, the Postmaster-General (the Hon. A. Hamilton) said that last month there were 600 new connections and 935 relinquishments, representing 335 connections given up. Taking the whole Dominion from April 1 last the cumulative loss of subscribers was 2688, some 2 or 3 per cent., which in the present difficult times could not be regarded in any way as disastrous. Even a small concession in rentals would be a very serious thing at present.
