NORTH TARANAKI CRICKET
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS WORK. DONE ON TUKAPO GROUND The management of the North Taranaki Cricket Division met at New Plymouth last night. Present: Messrs. T. H. Bates (chairman), J. Thompson, G. W. Haughton, F. C. Ferry, S. O. Jones and H. J. Abram (hon. secretary). The secretary reported that the match with the Victoria University College team had resulted in a loss of £2 17s 9d. Rain had interfered with the “gates.” » Mr. Ferry reported that the work authorised had been carried out to the satisfaction of the junior players. Soil had been brought from the oil bore for the wickets and sufficient had been held over for repairs. Work had been done on the wickets two days with the result that the wickets had played- well, without danger to the players. The wickets had been allotted to the various clubs, who were to keep them in reasonable order, as follows: No. 1 wicket, Old Boys; No. 2, Western Park; No. 3, New Plymouth; No. 4, Band and Central.
The necessity for mowing the wickets at Western Park was urged by Mr. Ferry. He suggested that the mower at Pukekura Park might be used. The chairman pointed out that the mower was a bowling green mower and might be damaged if used on the Tukapo wickets. The question was held over for a fortnight, the executive deciding to inspect the wickets in the meantime. As the Western Park v. New Plymouth senior A grade m.atch had been completed last Saturday the committee decided to play the Western Park v. New Plymouth senior . B fixture on the ground on the coming Saturday. On the application of Western Park Rutherford was re-graded to senior B. It was decided to arrange a return match between the Country mid-week players and the North Taranaki senior B representatives at Pukekura Park on February 11. •
