STANDARD OF N.Z. FRUIT
RAISING QUALITY IN THE SHOPS. SCHEME OF THE FRUITGROWERS. A national scheme for the raising of the standard of fruit —apricots, nectarines, peaches, apples, pears, plums, lemons and cherries —marketed by New Zealand retailers has been undertaken by the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation. For a long time the question of the quality of the fruit marketed in the Dominion has engaged the attention of all interested in the industry. The fruitgrowers have now taken the onus on themselves of seeing that the retailer and the public shall have fruit of the highest quality. In the past high grade fruit has been available in the shops, but it has carried no mark to distinguish it from inferior fruit. Under the fruitgrowers’ scheme, to be known as the DominionMark scheme, there will be placed on the markets throughout the Dominion standardised packages of fruit. Only first class fruit will be admitted under the scheme. Air. R. D. McCully, representative of the Fruitgrowers’ Federation of New Zealand, visited New Plymouth during the past month and conferred with New Plymouth dealers and retailers. The Dominion trade-mark will be exhibited by the retail shops which are supporting the scheme.*
