MEETING OF TOWN BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Opunake Town Board was held on Monday evening. Present: Messrs, A. J. Brennan (chairman), D. Mourie, S. Boyd, D. J. S. Dudley, F. Hammond, C. H. Smith, W. Gunson and H. E. Lodge (town clerk). No alteration is to be made in the weekly half holiday (Wednesday). The action of the committee in appointing Mr. L. Wiltshire as dog tax collector was confirmed.

Mr. W. E. Gunson was elected deputy chairman with authority to sign cheques. It was decided to make application for men under the Unemployment Act to clear gorse etc in the town district.' A committee consisting of Messrs. Gunson, Hammond and the clerk was appointed to secure particulars regarding a strongroom door. Correspondence was received from Mr. C. 0. Edmonds on behalf of Mrs. Norcross and Mr. T. S. Hickey applying for a reduction in rates on their sections where the buildings had recently been burned, the rates to be reduced by half, and from the Phoenix Insurance Company asking that the town hall insurance be .reduced. It was decided to reduce the town hall amount from £l2OO to £lOOO.

Mr. H. G-. Davey applied for permission to erect a shed at the rear of Mr. J. Morris’ store, which was granted, provided no objection was raised by the adjoining owner. It was decdied to discontinue hiring the town hall piano. The pound-keeper reported that during the month two head of cattle had been impounded and 12 head released on the road. The foreman reported that attention had been given Main Road, Gisborne Terrace, King Street, Ihaia Road, Fox Street, Napier Street, Doramett Street, Havelock .Street and Layard Street. The water channels in Main Street had been cleaned and rubbish collected. The cattle stop at the domain entrance had been completed and six nine-inch pipes put in at the entrance. Three men had been employed under the No. 5 scheme. The foreman was instructed to make necessary repairs to the footpath near the Waratah tea-rooms. The funeral of the late Mr. Charles Donnelly took place on Sunday. The services in the Anglican Church and at the graveside were conducted by Canon Williams, Aramoho. The pall-bearers were Messrs. AV. \A z ar<l, A. Hickman, W. Haggct, A. Donnelly, E. Pickering and R. Malcolm. A large number of wreaths testified to the high esteem in which Mr. Donnelly was held.
